A quick tip for judgement would be, if your truck uses 12 volt battery and comes with 16 pin OBD2 port, it's most likely to be OBDII compliant and should work well. Or if it's cars and light duty trucks sold in the US after 1996, medium duty trucks sold in the US after 2005 which are the years that US mandate using OBDII protocols, they will work as well.
